Persistence and Optimism
Okay, a REAL post…finally. December 4th, I believe, was a day to acknowledge and celebrate the tremendous endurance of the handicapped around the globe. Sadly, the first thing I think of when I hear handicapped, is the blue marked zone which would result in a lovely present on my window should I dive into the store for a quick buy. They say there are 600 million disabled people around the globe; not limited to the blind, the deaf, the mute, the mentally challenged, and the crippled. Well why did I bring this up? I was watching a show presented in China for this international holiday for the handicapped. The show presented traditional and modern dancing very nicely choreographed to perfection. It amplified the singers’ strong vocals captivating the audience. If that wasn’t enough, the show displayed a wonderful array of instruments and the talented musicians behind them. What made this show any different than the typical show at an opera house? Well, for one thing, all of the performers are disabled. There was a dance about the thousand hands of the Guan Ying God; where the hand movements of the performers were timed perfectly. You wouldn’t even think that they were deaf and unable to adjust to the sound of the music playing. A drum group played in unison, despite the fact that they were unable to hear the wonderful beats that they created. A group of 24 blind men and women danced around the floor perfectly, without fear of making a visual mistake. A person sitting down on a wheelchair sang with a brilliant voice which echoed throughout the entire opera hall. A group of Chinese string and wind instrument players played tunes from many of the well known songs. Eight men, all armless, performed a very emotional dance to emphasize their will to keep on surviving and living a healthy life. This wasn’t an ordinary show. Determination and strength reflected off of each of the performers. Where people gave 110% of themselves, these men and women gave a thousand more. They were doing what they love. Their disabilities were not enough to hinder these desires to succeed and continue living a happy life. I’m not saying we need to sympathize or just appreciate what WE have currently. It’s more than that. Making the best out of our situation, no matter how impossible, can result in great success. This may be a simple idea to grasp when things are going our way, but if we take it from the performers’ point of view, life is more than an arm or a leg.

I return! Sorta.
I've been told I've been slacking on producing interesting blogs...let alone blogs period.  So I will try to keep up with this once again.  Thank you Jesse for that wonderful observation.  I hope everyone's turkey day resulted in more tastey food and less hassles.  I'm sleepy now, however, so I'll resume my posts another time.
